It doesn't matter if this place is sideways, upside down, or inside out. I think it's thirty stories of greatness and you're the great man who made it this way.

— Todd to Principal Kidswatter in"The Elevator"

Todd is a character in the Wayside School books. He is one of the many students in Mrs. Jewls's class. While well-behaved, Todd was the first student to speak out loud in Mrs. Jewls's class without raising his hand. As a result, Mrs. Jewls keeps a close eye on him, leading to him regularly getting his name written on the discipline list and having him sent home early on the kindergarten bus.

Biography[]

He originally transferred to Wayside after an accident involving helping kindergarten kids with retrieving toys, only for an unusual series of events to happen, leading the toys to be destroyed by a wood chipper. Ever since, he fears kindergarten kids. However, his stay at Wayside is no better; every day, he manages to get into enough trouble as to be sent home early on the kindergarten bus. Though he never deliberately misbehaves, Mrs. Jewls frequently punishes him, due to technicalities and minor infractions, (like answering a question on don't answer a teacher's question day). He has came to good terms with the kindergarten kids at Wayside after saving a girl's stuffed animal. His social status is questionable. He is good friends with Dana, Myron, and Maurecia. A running gag that often occurs with Todd throughout the series is when Mr. Kidswatter calls him "344 South Fairview", his address, instead of his name.

Appearance[]

In the books, Todd wears a green shirt. In "A Story That Isn't About Socks," Todd's "best clothes" consist of a pair of sunglasses and a Hawaiian flowered shirt. Aside from this, Todd's appearance isn't described, but he presumably doesn't have short hair, as Joy is capable of pulling his hair in "Todd."

In the cartoon, Todd is a student with fair skin, and red hair. He has a noticeable gap in his teeth that often sticks out of his mouth, like Leslie. He wears a blue short-sleeved shirt and a white long sleeved undershirt, along with green pants, and red shoes with white lines. In the episode "He is It!," Myron claims Todd is about four feet tall.

Personality[]

In the books, Todd is a generally optimistic student, appreciating his life at Wayside School and the people around him. While Todd often does get in trouble; he was the first student Mrs. Jewls caught talking out loud in class,so she keeps a careful eye on him, he still appreciates Mrs. Jewls, saying she's a nice teacher, and enjoying spending time at Wayside. Todd often is disappointed when he gets sent home on the kindergarten bus, because he wants to stay in Mrs. Jewls's class from twelve to two to see what happens. Todd is often a careful thinker, taking time to think before he says anything. However, he often forgets not to talk out loud, causing Mrs. Jewls to call on him specifically, in spite of the rest of the class often talking and screaming and fighting beforehand. Despite being optimistic, however, Todd does realize that he's not particularly lucky, as in "Todd," he understands that Mrs. Jewls sends him home early nearly every day,

In the cartoon, Todd is a person of routine, order, and habit, although not as much as Dana. He wants to make Wayside a more logical place and does so several times, although he is often foiled in the end. Todd tries to make a stand. He has very little or no interest in romance with Maurecia, despite Maurecia's crush on him.

  • In cartoon he's appear to be ginger.
