Bebe Gunn (pun on BB Gun, but her first name is pronounced "bay bay" in the cartoon) is a very artistic student in Mrs. Jewls' class. She works with Calvin to create lots of art.

The books mention Bebe has big brown eyes, short brown hair, small toes, and a beebee nose. Aside from that, however, little is given on her appearance. The cartoon changes her hair from brown to a dark magenta, now tied up at the sides. She wears a dark purple hat upon her round head. Her eyes in the cartoon are usually half-closed, while her nose is depicted as being much larger. Her lips are also rather prominent in the cartoon. She wears a magenta and white striped shirt and a dark purple skirt. She usually wears white shoes. She has dark skin.

Many people appreciate Bebe and her artistic ability, although some believe that it doesn't matter how fast she makes the art, but rather how good it looks. She is usually most creative around midnight, and her parents often let her stay up until then when she does well. However, it is known that she does write rude comments about Mrs. Jewls on her papers, which she blames her imaginary brother Ray Gunn for. In the cartoon, she is nonverbal for the most part, and communicates through her drawings. She can draw a cat in less than forty-five seconds, a dog in less than thirty seconds, and a flower in less than eight. It also takes her the same amount of time to draw an egg as a watermelon. And also likes fredhat

Major Roles

  • In Sideways Stories from Wayside School in a chapter called "Bebe", Bebe teams up with Calvin, a slow artist, to draw many pictures together, by having him supply her materials. By the end though, she learns that the appearance of the art matters more than the quantity.
  • In Wayside School is Falling Down, there is a chapter called "Bebe's Baby Brother" where she constantly is seen writing mean notes about Mrs. Jewls on her papers, which supposedly are written by her brother Ray. By the end of the chapter though, it is revealed Ray doesn't exist.
  • In the cartoon, the episode "A Wayside Christmas", Myron forgets to get Bebe a gift, instead getting another gift for himself. This depresses Bebe, while Myron starts believing his classmates are characters from A Christmas Carol

  • In the cartoon, she rarely ever speaks, aside from in the episode Music Lessons.
  • She owns a bird named Picasso.
  • Her name is a pun on "BB gun".

"Cool, Leslie. Real cool."
